Third International Congress on Fungal Conservation

First Circular

Muğla, Turkey, 11-15 November 2013 [dates provisional]. This will be the Society's first main meeting, and the first time an International Congess on Fungal Conservation has been hosted outside Europe. The Congress is the third in a series begun before the Society was established and that series, from now on, will be continued with further Congresses organized by the Society and held at intervals of not more than four years. The Society is most grateful to Dr Mustafa Isiloğlu of the University of Muğla for his generous offer to host and organize this event.

Programme. The official language of the Congress will be English. An Organizing Committee is currently being assembled by Dr Isiloğlu and Society President, Dr David Minter, and a provisional programme and other Congress information will be made available as soon as possible. Suggestions relating to that programme are welcomed and at this stage should be sent to the Society President [e-mail: d.minter<at>].

Satellite events. Various options for satellite events associated with this meeting are being considered. Again, suggestions for such events are welcomed and at this stage should be sent to the Society President [e-mail: d.minter<at>].

Previous Congresses. There have been two previous international meetings on fungal conservation. One in Córdoba (Spain, December 2007), and the other in Whitby (UK, October 2009). Although the Turkish Congress will be the first to use the title, "International Congress on Fungal Conservation", the contribution of the two earlier meetings should be recognized and, for that reason, the Turkish Congress is described as the third in this series, not the first.

The Congress location. Gökova Bay, a small seaside resort about 20 km north of Marmaris in Muğla Province. In November, the climate is mild with some precipitation. There are international airports at Bodrum (60 km) and Dalaman (40 km).
